Hospital Bag Essentials

Packing your hospital bag is an exciting step in your pregnancy journey. It signifies that the big day is approaching, and you'll soon be meeting your little one! The main goal is to ensure you have everything you’ll need for your hospital stay, covering both the labour and birth stages as well as your post-birth recovery. Additionally, you'll want to make sure your baby has everything they’ll need for their first few days with you. Although packing your hospital bag might seem overwhelming with so much to remember, it doesn’t have to be. Simply follow our guide, check off our checklist, and enjoy preparing for this next exciting chapter in your journey.

When to start packing?

Since babies often arrive on their own schedule, with only 1 in 20 arriving exactly on their due date, it’s a good idea to have your hospital bag packed at least three weeks in advance. This way, you’ll be ready to go if your little one decides to make an early appearance.

For Twins consider packing your hospital bag by 26 weeks, since twins often arrive early. You'll need twice as many baby clothes and nappies.

Don't Forget Your Car Seat:

If you are driving home or taking a taxi, it's important to have a rear-facing newborn (group 0+) car seat, as it is a legal requirement. Please make sure the car seat is fitted in the back seat, away from the dashboard airbags.

Planned C-Section

When preparing for a planned C-section, it's a good idea to pack a few extras since you may be in the hospital for a few days. Bring plenty of comfortable, high-waisted cotton underwear to go over your scar, an extra nightgown, and slip-on slippers, as your movements will be restricted. To keep yourself entertained, make a playlist on your phone and pack headphones, books, and magazines for before the C-section and during recovery. For your baby, you'll need extra clothes and nappies.
